918 Kg Of Sanjeev Kapoor & Baba Ramdev’s Khichdi Makes It To The Guinness Book Of World Records


This week, everyone who is anyone in the food and beverage industry landed in the national Capital to attend World Food India (WFI) 2017 to witness a delicious world record in the making. The food event also saw the declaration of khichdi as “Brand Food India” and, chef Sanjeev Kapoor, who is also the brand ambassador of WFI, prepared a record-breaking amount of khichdi.


918 Kg Of Khichdi

Along with his team of almost two-dozen people, Kapoor cooked 918 kilograms of the food in a long and tedious process. Meanwhile, yoga guru Baba Ramdev jazzed up things with a special tadka that he made for the khichdi. The event was part of the ‘Great Indian Food Street’ at the festival that features street food from 20 states.

The special khichdi making, which was organized at the India Gate lawns in Delhi in front of a zapped audience, was cooked in a massive metal kadhai (wok) that weighed a whopping 300 kg and had the capacity of 1000 liters. Take a look.

Needless to say, the dish has made a place for itself in Guinness’ roster of world records. Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, chefs Ranveer Brar and Saransh Goila witnessed this milestone moment as well.


What’s Next?

After a series of trials spanning over a month, chef Kapoor, who curated the food street concept, said, “The world should know whatever we have been processing. The intent is to promote Indian culinary in front of a global audience and in a way benefit farmers at the grass root level.”

As reported earlier, in order to promote the food, a portion of it will be packed in specially designed packages and sent to all the heads of foreign missions in India, along with the recipe.

”The food street celebrates food traditions of India which are more than capable of imbibing beautifully with any world cuisines,” said Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, minister of state for food processing.
