Aadhaar Compulsory for Mid Day Meal In UP Schools

on

In a move from the Yogi Adityanath Government that comes three months after the the Union Human Resource Development Ministry  asked UP schools to make a list of students who possess the cards, the government has made it compulsory for students to have Aadhaar to continue receiving their mid day meals

The Director of Basic Education has asked education officers in all the districts to ensure that every beneficiary of the midday meal has an Aadhaar card. A window till June 30 has been given to complete the registration of all students.

“If Aadhaar cards for all beneficiaries of the midday meal scheme are not made and their numbers not submitted to the State government, then the students without such cards will not be able to benefit from the different schemes of the government,” said Director, Basic Education, Sarvendra Vikram Bahadur Singh, in a letter addressed to primary education officers.

The director has also warned the officials that they would be held responsible if students UIDAI numbers are not submitted.

How to meet the Deadline?

The present rate of Aadhaar enrolment of students of primary schools in the State is extremely low.

In Meerut for instance, of a total of 1.73 lakh students in 1,561 schools, only about 29,000 students have Aadhaar cards, which comes to less than 17 %.

With schools closed fr the summer vacations, this puts the school officials in some confusion as to howto meet the deadline. Most of the students are not in town for the holidays. Schools open only on July 1st and even though the teachers can help organise all the lists, it is going to be mayhem unless the deadline is pushed.

Here’s hoping that a solution will be found and the the children get their mid day meals. That of course is the most important factor to be considered.
