Firefighters Save Piglets From Fire And End Up Eating Them
According to reports by the BBC the brave firefighters rescues two sows and the litter of 18 piglets from a blazing barn fire in Wiltshire, England. The fire was caused due to electrical issues and the farmers were pretty happy that their livestock was safe.
However, six months later, the manager of the Milton Libourne farm named Rachel Rivers decided to give her regards to the firemen who saved the pigs by sending them sausages. These were made using the pig meat of the same pigs the firemen rescued.
The sausages were sent to the Pewsey Fire Station and the firefighters actually put up a Facebook post with a picture of the meat simmering away on a barbecue. After receiving a backlash from the community, they decided to remove the picture. Even PETA got involved and a spokesperson called Mimi Bekhechi said, “We’ll be sending them packages of vegan sausages so that they can see how easy it is to truly be heroes for pigs – by sparing them all suffering.”
However Rivers mentioned that ultimately the pigs were to be slaughtered and instead of the market, they simply went to the firemen as a token of gratitude. “I gave those animals the best quality of life I could ever give until the time they go to slaughter and they go into the food chain,” she said. “You do feel sad at the end of it… but to bring them down for [the firefighters] was a good way of saying ‘thank you’.”
