Have You Ever Heard Of Boxed Beer Before?
Sure, we’ve become accustomed to picking up a box of wine when we’re on a budget (or when a bottle just won’t cut it). However, have you ever heard of boxed beer before? Primitive Beer is doing exactly that by specializing in uncarbonated lambic-style sour beers which will be sold either on tap or to-go in 1.5-liter bag-in-boxes.
Because these beers are uncarbonated, that means they will be less disposed to going flat, so the box won’t hamper the quality of the beer. In fact, in Belgium, where Iambic beer originated they actually sell beer in bags.
Brandon Boldt, who owns the brewery with his wife, Lisa, told Westword that the lower cost of selling beer in boxes is actually another nod to Belgium. “We’ve always wanted to use the Belgian methodology, which is not to overcharge,” he explained. Still, he admits that people may be slow to accept an unusual style (still lambics) in such an unusual packaging. “This is definitely an experiment,” he added.
