Menu On Rail App Launched By The Indian Railways
One can now read up the menu and check on the prices of the food available on board a Mail or Express train of the Indian Railways. According to a report by the Hindustan Times, an app called ‘Menu on Rail’ was launched by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal yesterday.
Food On Train Menu
The app can be used by the passengers travelling by Humsafar Train, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Gatiman Express and Tejas Express, the Indian Railways told the media in a statement. The food items will be distributed amongst four categories – beverages, breakfast, meals and a-la-carte. The rate card of all the food available on board as well as on the stations with taxes will be available on the app. The food plazas and fast food counters on the station will however be not be included.
The report by the Hindustan Times further says that the a-la-carte menu in the app has 96 food items under various categories like breakfast, light meals, combo meals, non-vegetarian, Jain food, sweets, diabetic foods etc. The passengers can also see the pre-booked food items for EC (executive chair car) and CC (AC chair car) classes in Shatabdi trains, 1A, 2A and 3A classes for Rajdhani and Duronto trains. The app will also display food items for the sleeper class in Duronto, pre-booked food items for Gatiman and Tejas Express along with a menu for the trains that are running late.
Making Travel Easier
After facing complaints of being overcharged by caterers, the app can prove to be an effective way to curb this problem says the report. Earlier, the railways had announced that the passengers didn’t need to pay for the food if bill wasn’t provided to them. Plus, Additional PoS (Point-Of-Sale) machines were also made available in many of the trains. Further, the railways have also come up with ‘Rail Madad’ for an easy way for grievance redressal of the passengers.
