Train Journeys Just Got Tasty: FoodPanda Announces Tie Up With IRCTC

on

A few years ago, family train journeys involved my mother making andpacking some thayir saatham (a South-Indian dish), while my father opted for theplas. Although I wasn’t a huge fan of either, I ate both quietly, preferring them to the unappetizing railway food.

Since then, the food scene has exploded in India, and train travellers no longer have to make do with limited food options when travelling. Why? Because FoodPanda, and online food market place has teamed up with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to send a variety of meals to railway travellers.

All About FoodPanda

foodpanda

Founded in 2012, FoodPanda allows customers to browse through a variety of restaurants in their area and place orders for food online. As each restaurant is accompanied by reviews and ratings, FoodPanda helps customers make informed decisions about the restaurants they’re ordering from. Currently, they feature over 4000 restaurants across 100 cities in India.

FoodPanda Meets IRTC

“Our association with IRCTC will be an offering which addresses a huge consumer need prevailing for years. For long, consumers had limited food options to choose from while travelling with Indian railways but the newly launched e-catering service by IRCTC (approved by Ministry of Railways) is set to change the way Indians eat while travelling,” said the FoodPanda India CEO Saurabh Kochhar said.

The service will roll out in Delhi for a test run soon, and will expand to various other cities in the future.

If ordering from FoodPanda, customers have to place their orders at least two hours in advance. FoodPanda will handle the logistics and delivery as well as the menu options, and personnel from the company will deliver the ordered food right to the train. Customers will be able to pay online or by cash on delivery.

Now all we need is a good book recommendation for our next train journey and we’ll be all set!
