FRIENDS Monica’s Birthday Flan Recipe
Monica from FRIENDS is known for being a great chef. She goes out of her way to keep her friends and family happy and full; one Thanksgiving she makes three different types of mashed potatoes because Phoebe, Joey and Ross all want different kinds, while another Thanksgiving she makes Joey a whole turkey.
However, there have been some instances where her culinary experiments have been a bit of a failure. Remember the Mockolate cookies? And the salmon mousse? And the birthday flan?
Here’s Some Goo
The birthday flan was a dessert that Monica made for Rachel’s birthday party. Here’s what the FRIENDS had to say about it:
Phoebe: Ok, here are the birthday candles. Where’s the birthday cake?
Monica: Ok, we’re not having birthday cake, we’re having birthday flan.
Chandler: Excuse me?
Monica: It’s a traditional Mexican custard dessert.
Joey: Oh that’s nice, Happy birthday Rachel, here’s some goo.

Personally, we think that the flan was a unique idea. Before you judge Monica, why not make some of your own and see whether it was an appropriate birthday dessert?
Flan is a cake with a sweet filling and can be traced back to Ancient Rome. While it’s been prepared in French, Spanish and British cuisines, since Monica says that she made it Mexican style, we’re sharing a Mexican style flan recipe. Have it for dessert after a meal and enjoy!
