The 90’s Cafe Is A Trip Down Memory Lane With A Delicious Modern Menu

Calling all kids of the 90’s! If you’ve been looking for a place to hang out with your fellow 90’s babies while you chow down on great food, there’s a new spot opened up in Anna Nagar that will make everything better. The 90’s Cafe was started by a group of friends born in the 90’s, this cafe is a passion project with a balance of nostalgia. The walls of the restaurant are covered in a mural with elements from the past. There’s an entire wall dedicated to the cartoons of our childhood, including Flintstones, Powerpuff Girls, He-Man, Johnny Bravo and much more. Sure, a lot of these cartoons and elements were around before the 90’s, but it gained more attention when that generation was born. And that’s not all, they’ve got beanbags littered around tables, so that you can really just relax and enjoy yourself while you’re there, instead of having to sit properly and behave yourself.

They’ve also got a bookshelf with comics and even National Geographic magazines from the 90’s – including one from the 60’s, because nostalgia! While the appearance of the restaurant gives you the 90’s feel, the menu is much more modern. The 90’s Cafe has been open for about three weeks now and they’re in the process of finalising their menu. That’s not to say that they don’t have a menu at this moment, they do and it’s full of delicious options, but they promise a much more comprehensive menu by December.

“The menu is mostly continental, inspired by American and English cuisine. We’re trying to bring in different varieties of burgers, which is what our menu has mostly. We’re making our own recipes and trying different things,” Tomy, the restaurant manager, told us when we swung by for a visit. We also had some lunch while we were there and Tomy helped us decide on what to eat, along with recommending some really great options.

This is not something that lots of restaurants offer, because it’s a unique treat. You’re used to drinking Tender Coconut Water nice and cold to help you beat the Chennai heat. But how about treating yourself to a Tender Coconut Milkshake? It’s thick and refreshing and just what anyone of us really need.

To start our meal off, we had the Chicken Croquettes. Hot and crispy and served with an interesting sauce and on a bed of greens, this helped keep the hunger at bay as our main course was being prepared. The most interesting part was that the starter was served on the very same thing we make our chapatis on!

We had a Chicken Al Pesto, which was a good amount of food in a steel rectangular bowl with a healthy helping of pesto and cheese and even chicken, obviously. Despite the size of the serving as you see it in the picture, it’s actually enough for two people!

A delicious burger must always have beef and bacon and this one was absolutely perfect. Named “He Who Must Not Be Named”, this burger will seriously solve all your problems and make the day instantly better.
