Almost 3 Lakh Tonnes Of Pulses Disposed Of By The FCI
According to a report by the Press Trust of India, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) which is run by the state has disposed of 2.97 lakh tonnes of pulses. This amounts to about the same amount that the corporation had procured in two years. The stock has been disposed of to the different states of India as well as the bulk consumers says the data collected by the PTI.
Ensuring Minimum Support Price
In the marketing years 2015-16 and 2016-17 (July-June), the FCI has procured a stock of 2.98 lakh tonnes of the pulses which was at the minimum support price. Now the current data says that the corporation has cleared the stock of 2.97 lakh tonnes. This comprises of tur, masoor, moong and urad pulses. Electronic auctions were used to sell about 2.36 lakh tonnes of these pulses to the bulk users. The rest of the stock was sold to the states.
Currently the FCI has only 800 tonnes of pulses left behind and it plans to dispose of that as well. The corporation is meant to procure and distribute wheat and rice at the minimum support price. The pulses were thus procured over the last two years to make sure that the farmers got the support price.
