Are Toilet Themed Restaurants The New Dining Trend?

Last Friday the ‘Crazy Toilet Cafe’ opened its doors in Moscow. As its name suggests, the decor and the food and drinks served all use sojourns to the lavatory as an inspiration. “We think people will walk past, think ‘What on Earth is that?’ and then come in to check it out,” said general manager Inga Yaroslavskaya to The Guardian. “It’s not everywhere you can eat good food from a toilet bowl and drink from a urinal at very reasonable prices.”

Guests are welcomed to seat themselves on real life (sealed) toilets as they dine on dishes like brown and mushroom soup, sausages with mashed potatoes and drink hot, yellow tinged cocktails out of mini urinals.

Modern Toilet Restaurant

Surprisingly, the Crazy Toilet Cafe isn’t the first of its kind. The Modern Toilet restaurant is a chain based in Taiwan that has been around for a while. Diners are seated on closed toilet seats, ice cream is served in mini toilets while drinks are served in urinals.

In terms of decor, guests dine atop tables made with bathroom tiles and under plungers and showerheads that hang from the ceiling.

The restaurant is immensely popular; it already has 12 outlets in Taiwan and Hong Kong and plans to expand to Malaysia soon.

Nature’s Call Toilet Cafe

Indians need not visit Taiwan to dine in lavatory revelry. In 2013, Ahmedabad opened the doors to the Nature’s Call Toilet Cafe, at which patrons sit on toilets as they eat. Even wackier is that the cafe is at the centre of a toilet garden which has over 21 different types of lavatories and urinals.

While we understand the importance of a good, hygienic lavatory, we think these restaurants’ tributes to toilets are taking things a little too far. Would you be able to dine at these restaurants?
