Athletes In The Olympic Village Are Going Crazy Over Free McDonald’s

on

What does an Olympic athlete, after training for months and years, do after losing their medal to another country? The answer: heads to McDonald’s to treat himself to a cartload of junk food after all those days of fasting. At least, that’s what Sawan Serasinghe, an Australian badminton athlete did after failing to advance to the quarter finals after losing to China.

A McDonald’s Feast

Instead of mourning the loss, Serasinghe choose to see the silver lining – he’s no longer in training which means he’s allowed to pig out a bit.

He posted this photo of himself on Instagram yesterday:

The photo was captioned “Wow what a week it has been in Rio! Have to say I am disappointed about the match today. We definitely had a good chance to stretch the match to three sets toward the end of the second set but couldn’t close it out. We would have loved to end our first Olympic campaign with a win against a much higher ranked pair. Although having said that, there are lots of good things to learn from the matches in the last three days playing against more experienced pairs. Can’t wait to go back home to start training and keep on improving! Just want to say thanks again to everyone back home for the on going support. Definitely motivated me to fight hard on court everyday! ❤ Now it’s time to eat some junk food after months of eating clean! ?”

Take a closer look and you’ll see that that’s four boxes of McNuggets, six burgers, six packs of French Fries and sic cakes. Also, we wonder why he’s baring his abs in the photo as well…perhaps to show us just how much he deserves his extra-large McDonald’s meal?

The Lure of McDonald’s

Serasinghe isn’t the only athlete to chow down on McDonald’s in the Olympics Village. McDonald’s is the official restaurant of the Olympic games and so has a restaurant inside the Village. According to The Washington Post, the queue to get some fast food sometimes stretches further than a football field; “Morning and night, in blazing sun or stiff wind, come stray bullet or whiff of sewage, the Olympians will be waiting for their fries.”

McD

Many of the athletes are considering McDonald’s a better option than the food in the cafeteria in the Village. Additionally, McDonald’s is free for athletes and coaches. McDonald’s recently had to place a limit on the number of items that a person could order – its currently set at twenty.
