A Bunch Of Grapes In Japan Was Just Sold For Over $11,000

Want to hear something that will completely boggle your mind and distract you from those Monday blues? A bunch of 30 Ruby Roman grapes was recently sold in an auction in Japan for – wait for it – 1.1 million Yen which is roughly Rs.731,716, reports Daily Mail.

The Ruby Roman Grapes

No, these grapes are not made from gold, nor were they excavated from ruins of ancient Rome. The Ruby Roman grapes are grown in the Ishikawa prefecture in North Japan. Specifications say that to fit in the Ruby Roman category, each grape must weigh at least 20 grams and a sugar content of at least 18%. Each grape is about the size of a ping pong ball.

The grapes were bought by Takamaru Konishi, a grocer. “I am so happy and I am honoured. These are truly Ruby Roman gems,” said Konishi to the The Daily Mail.

The Fate Of The Grapes

If the numbers we threw at you weren’t shocking enough, here’s what Konishi plans to do with the grape; give them away for free.

“We will display them at our store before giving our customers a sample taste,” Konishi is reported to have said.
