Coffee Can Promise A Longer Life Says Study

on

Can coffee promise a long life? Apparently yes according to a recent study. Consuming up to three cups to coffee can increase longevity whether you pick from espresso decaf or latte, your pick. Male consumers of coffee have and 18% and women consumers have 8% reduction in mortality rate.

Now let’s get to how this theory was derived. A bunch of scientists at the International Agency for Research on Cancer and at Imperial College London conducted a study on a huge number or people. 521,330 to be precise and they all fall under the age group of 35 and above. These people came from 10 different European countries along with the United Kingdom.

Here’s what they found out. In 16 years of follow up it was found that 41,000 of these people had passed away and that comes to around 8 percent. Yes of course they calculated the risks caused by smoking, consumption of alcohol and diet. Still, they found that people who consumed more coffee had a low risk of death as compared to those who didn’t drink coffee.

“We found that higher coffee consumption was associated with a lower risk of death from any cause, and specifically for circulatory diseases, and digestive diseases,” said lead author Dr Marc Gunter of the IARC to delish.com. He adds that their study also offers insights into the possible mechanisms for beneficial health effects of the beverage.

Narrowing down to a group of 14000 people, the study also found that coffee consumers have healthy livers and better glucose control that non consumers.

Dr Gunter also says, “We found that drinking more coffee was associated with a more favourable liver function profile and immune response. This, along with the consistency of the results with other studies in the US and Japan gives us greater confidence that coffee may have beneficial health effects.”

To add, another separate study by University of Hawaii Cancer Center and the Keck School of Medicine consisting of 185,855 people also had similar results. The lead author of the study, Veronica W. Setiawan, said to USC News, “We cannot say drinking coffee will prolong your life, but we see an association. If you like to drink coffee, drink up! If you’re not a coffee drinker, then you need to consider if you should start.”
