I need a new schedule. A coffee drinking one.

Time after time, we’ve been told mixed things about coffee. So much so, even when a steaming cup of coffee is placed before you, you’ve got mixed feelings. So here we are again, adding to those mixed feelings.

Let’s get the facts straight first- The Scientific Report of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee notes that “consumption of coffee within the moderate range (3 to 5 cups per day or up to 400 mg/d caffeine) is not associated with increased long-term health risks among healthy individuals” and that “consistent evidence indicates that coffee consumption is associated with reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in adults.”

Now you’re smiling and running off to get yourself a cup or hollering out to someone who can get you one.

It’s common to drink coffee before a workout. It keeps your head in the game and makes sure you aren’t phasing out- I know I do. One minute you’re on the treadmill and another you’re sitting on a farm. Black coffee in particular keeps your body alert and active and an alert and active body burns more calories. A.k.a, Coffee gets the metabolism to do some work.

These, however are only conclusions we can come to. Here’s how I see it, if you’re within your daily limit of coffee intake, you’re good to go. You keep active and hence you don’t laze around or nod off, you’re up for a workout even at the end of the day and most importantly, you’re in a good mood. And a happy body definitely works better. And isn’t that what everyone wants anyway?

Drink up. Shrink down.
