American cattle farmers are finding more demand for their least popular cuts a little away from home- well, in Japan. The tongue is so popular in Japan that the Japanese putting them in everything including ice cream. “The American consumer doesn’t want it, so let’s export it to somebody that does,” Pete Bonds, president of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association in Fort Worth.
U.S. recently lifted the ban on European-imported beef and simultaneously, Japan loosened its restrictions on American-imported beef in 2013. So it’s a cow for a cow the way we see it.
