Enjoy A Mini-Vacation At Boardwalk By Flamboyante, A Sea Side Restaurant A Ferry Ride Away

One of Mumbai’s favourite weekend getaways is Goa; ever so often we pack our bags, book a flight and head to the nearby state for two days of sun, sand and sea. Sadly, we can’t do that as often as we’d like because of work, family and a bounty of other commitments in the mother city.

But perk up; we recently found a wonderful substitute to our Goa breaks – a beautiful, sea side restaurant a 40 minute ferry ride from the Gateway of India.

Meet Boardwalk By Flamboyante 

The aptly named Boardwalk By Flamboyante sits two minutes’ walk away from the Mandwa jetty just off the boardwalk. It was opened last year by the folks behind Flamboyante, the popular brunch spot at Cuffe Parade.

Done up in white and blue, the seaside restaurant blends in beautifully with the sea beyond, which is separated from the restaurant only by a strip of sand. Large umbrellas over each table shield you from the sun and relaxing jazz music croons from somewhere inside the restaurant.

The Eats

Boardwalk’s menu is made of a range of Asian, North India and Italian dishes as well as summery, beachy cocktails, mocktails and beer. After enjoying a perfectly chilled bottle of Kingfisher and a velvety, tropical berry peach mocktail we called for two appetisers Potato Wedges and Crusty Mustard Chicken.

The Potato Wedges were thick, with a crispy skin and fleshy center but we particularly loved the Crusty Mustard Chicken. Tender chicken strips were coated with a crispy, crackling skin which made for a delicious balance of textures.

For our mains, we called for the Herbed Chicken & Bell Pepper Pizza and the Grilled Fish, which is one of Boardwalk Specials. The pizza combined a topping of mildly seasoned chicken peeves and fresh, vibrant bell  peppers on a slightly doughy crust; it was a generous dish which would make a filling meal for two.

We were massively impressed with the Grilled Fish; a boneless fillet of delicate white fish was lightly seasoned with a lemon and butter garlic sauce and topped with zesty capers. Had with a pint of beer and paired with the sight of gently lapping waves it was an ideal way to unwind and de-stress.

Finally, after pouring over the dessert menu we decided on a Mud Pie with Vanilla Ice cream and a cup of Tiramisu. While we wish the tiramisu had a little more of a coffee bite, we thoroughly enjoyed the Mud Pie – a generous dose of rich chocolate paired with creamy vanilla ice cream.
