Following Direction From The FDA, McDonald’s India Will Print Caffeine Warning On Its Cups

After being asked by the Food and Drug Administration to carry caffeine warnings on cups which contain caffeine drinks, McDonald’s India has agreed to carry the warnings.

The FDA as well as other government organisations have been taking several steps to draw attention to and combat the effects of unhealthy eating. These include suggesting that fast food like samosas and burgers should carry labels saying that they are ‘junk food’.

In January, they were also campaigning that restaurant, bars, fast food chains, shopping malls and cinemas should print warnings on containers carrying caffeinated drinks.

“There are adverse effects of consumption of caffeinated food products and specific category of people are more susceptible to caffeinated food products such as pregnant women, lactating mothers, children and patients to whom it is medically advised to avoid consumption of caffeine,” FDA Commissioner Harshadeep Kamble told PTI, explaining the campaign.

McDonald’s Willl Print Warnings

McDonald’s has announced that it will comply with the FDA directions and put caffeine warnings on their cups.

“Following the directive, Hardcastle Restaurants, a franchise of McDonald’s, has adhered to all statutory requirements, and is in compliance with all applicable laws pertaining to mandatory food labelling. McDonald’s restaurants have implemented the advisory on its packaging. At McDonald’s India, the health, safety and well-being of our customers are paramount. We have always conformed to the highest quality and food safety standards and will continue to do so at all times.” said spokesperson, McDonald’s India – west & south India.
