This Food Budgeting Site Was Thought Up By A Student!

on

Budgeting can be tough, especially when you haven’t ever done it before! For those precarious years when one is not quite an adult but not a child either (aka college students) it’s not something that comes easy for everyone. This was exactly the same boat that Mikade Barns Graham was in when she decided to create a food budgeting site to help out fellow students like herself.

After having moved out of her parent’s house for university Mikade, studying in her second year at the University of Otago, noticed how students often did not know what to cook or how much to budget for food each week. This got her thinking about the usefulness of a site that told students the cost of food so they wouldn’t have to get through the week on instant noodles.

Her idea, FoodHub, a food budgeting site, won round one of this year’s Audacious business challenge. The website would include recipes for six to eight people and provide the total meal cost and the cost of each ingredient. Making it that much easier for those unaccustomed to grocery shopping (let’s face it, mum or dad usually it before).

Students aren’t the only ones who need help with budgeting. Young adults first starting their lives often need a bit of a helping hand making it in the real world. Lucky for us, 19-year-old Mikade is making it that much easier!
