Food Delivery Persons’ Under Police Scrutiny For Rash Driving
To get the food delivery on time as well as hot and fresh to the consumers, the delivery persons’ tend to break the traffic rules. Another reason could be that more the deliveries, higher the incentives. But the rash driving has caught the attention of Mumbai Police and they are in talks with executives of popular services like Swiggy, Zomato and UberEats to curb it. A report by Entrackr also mentions that offers like ‘in-time delivery or refund’ also might be putting pressure on delivery persons.
Food Delivery Gone Dangerous
“We are flooded with complaints of traffic violations by delivery boys of online food delivery firms like Swiggy, Zomato and UberEats, ” Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of police, Mumbai Traffic told Mumbai Mirror. The report also says that this won’t be the first time that the delivery persons are coming under such a scrutiny. This time around, the consequences could get severe for those who refuse to follow the traffic norms. “We will write to the RTO for cancelling their licences if they continue to ignore the law,” added Kumar.
Yet another policeman told the publication that food delivery companies should be setting realistic targets. A food delivery boy from Swiggy had lost his life last year in Jogeshwari. Another initiative by Swiggy, though not yet started in Mumbai, is to deliver under 30 minutes. Schemes like these cause a lot of pressure on the delivery persons who attempt to deliver in given time frame and risk their lives as well as that of others.
