Goa’s Iconic Thalassa Finally Opens Its Doors In Mumbai
When Mumbaikars get tired of the everyday grind, they toss a couple of swimsuits, shorts and sunscreen into suitcases and head off to Goa for a weekend. In Goa, they unwind by relaxing on the beach, hitting clubs at night and indulging on the delicious food that countless Goan restaurants have to offer. One restaurant which is on every foodie’s radar is Thalassa, an outdoor Greek restaurant in Vagator.
Now, Mumbai has been buzzing with excitement; Thalassa has (in response to many, many pleas) opened an outlet in Mumbai.
Thalassa In Mumbai
“I am looking forward to bringing Thalassa to Mumbai. It’s a very cosmopolitan city when it comes to cuisines, but I always felt it was missing Greek food. That’s why I wanted to come here,” said Thalassa’s owner Mariketty Grana to the Mid-Day.
Grana, who is from Corfu in Greece opened Goa’s Thalassa ten years ago. In 2013, Thalassa paid a brief visit to Mumabi in the form of a pop up. Early this month, it set up a permanent residence in Khar.
What Can You Expect?
Delicious Greek food. On the menu are starters including tuna dip, village bruschetta, kalamata olives, calamari meat malls, mains like a roast lamb, chicken risotto and sofrito (layers of beef steak fillet cooked in garlic, parsley and white wine), feta mousaka and vegetable souvlaki as well as kebabs and grills. A focus is placed on fresh seafood with dishes like prawn risotto and fisherman’s pasta.
Meanwhile, the restaurant itself boasts dreamy white interiors with hints of blues, terrazo flooring and wooden furniture, capturing the essence of Greece.
There has been a large body of research which suggests Mediterranean food is immensely good for your health; head here for more information. This, paired with the great food and experience Thalassa promises to offer makes it a must visit this weekend.
