The Guy Who Stopped The WannaCry Ransomware Was Just Awarded a Year Of Free Pizza

‘WannaCry’, an ongoing world-wide cyber attack which is still hijacking computers’ files and holding them ransom has been top news over the past few days. A couple of hours after the realise of WannaCry, Marcus Hutchkins accidentally discovered a kill switch in the malware which could stop the attack spreading.

As a recognition of his efforts, Hutchins (22) has been awarded £7,800 from HackerOne group and a year’s supply of free pizza.

Real Superheroes Eat Pizza

Hutchins, who operates the handle @malwaretechblog is being lauded as a superhero across the world.

Recognising him, Just Eat UK, which delivers takeaway from restaurants across the UK tweeted that they’re giving him free pizza for the year. “As the hero who stopped the ransomware virus, known as WannaCry, we thought it was only right to spread some cheesy love of our own and provide Marcus with his very own supply of piping-hot pizza, free for a whole year from any Just Eat restaurant,” said a statement on the website.

“Call it a thank you on behalf of the nation – a small slice of our appreciation. Massive props to you Marcus, and enjoy your next Just Eat delivery. ?,” it adds.

The WannaCry infection has affected about 200,000 computers and disrupted the National Health Service hospitals in England and Scotland and Nissan Motor Manufacturing in the UK.
