Hauz Khas Village’s Future As A Dining & Party Hub Is In Danger, Here’s Why
Delhi, one of your favourite and most happening party hub and dining getaway, Hauz Khas Village, is in danger of loosing a bunch of its popular restaurants. And with good reason. Last week, the South Corporation of the Capital informed the High Court of revoking the license of 19 defaulting restaurants as per an “Extensive” survey carried out in the area.
The survey was carried out in 63 restaurants of which 49 were in violation of some or the other laid guideline. “Accordingly, licences have been revoked… by way of show-cause notices,” says the SDMC’s status report, filed before acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar. It further read that of the 19 evoked licences, “Nine licences (were revoked) for running the restaurants with more than the permitted number of seats and 10 licences for running their trade on roads that don’t meet norms”.
According to a status report, the 19 restaurants whose licenses have been revoked were found violating a number of regulations including “running the restaurants with more than the permitted number of seats and 10 licences for running their trade on roads that don’t meet norms”.

Based on two PILs that were filed by advocates Rajeev Yadav and Anuja Kaur regarding the unfair and unsafe operations of the establishments, the court had been examining how the restaurants acquired their respective licenses and other clearances from the corporation, police and fire departments, on two PILs claiming these restaurants were operating illegally. The petitions also highlighted the lack of sufficient entry and exit points for vehicles in the area.
Meanwhile, according to another notice issued by the Delhi HC to the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, the latter needs to provide a site plan, which should specify the “width of the street, location of the restaurants as well as positioning of the exits of the restaurants, besides a comparative list of permissible and actual number of used properties.” And the deadline to provide this plan is this week.
So, Delhi folk, your party plans this fall depend on the SDMC and Hauz Khas Village’s attempts to convince the High Court of the latter’s competence as a safe and legal recreational space. But you always have these party places to hit up!
