“Over half of fresh produce in India perishes before it is consumed. We thought that if we could come up with something to reduce the spoilage by making the supply chain far more efficient, we would be able to provide much higher quality fresh produce than any other retail channel and at prices comparable or lower than local push cart vendors”, founder Samyak Jaggi tells Hungry Forever.
Jaggi and his team aim at saving the customers a trip to the grocers and also give their wallets a breather.
Idea & Inventory
The founders hail from a family with an established business in the fresh produce market. With the know-hows of the wholesale market in their blood, their venture is backed by superior knowledge and a unique thought – to deliver the freshest and keep customers satisfied.
Traditional retailers have an inventory system wherein they can store the produce up to a week under conditions that are favorable but not perfect.
So how does Jagsfresh manage to keep its food fresher than the rest?
“We on the other hand have an almost zero inventory model. Whatever is ordered is sourced subsequently from the largest fresh produce wholesale market in Asia before the sun rises, and dispatched in specially refrigerated vehicles maintained with ambient conditions to get to customer doorsteps in the best condition possible” explains Samyak.
Process & Purchaser
The Jagsfresh target is the contemporary double-income household that wishes to consume the freshest of harvest procured in the minimum amount of time required. And in today’s tech savvy age, there is nothing quicker than shopping that is just a click away on the Internet.
The company follows a smooth and quick course of order and delivery. “It begins with the customer placing an order, subsequently we source fresh produce as and when it arrives freshly from the orchards before the sun rises early morning.
“It is then sent for packing and shipping in specially made refrigerated vehicles maintained below 8 degrees Celsius to ensure that the produce which is received by the end consumer is fresher than any other retail channel”, Jaggi explains.
Crew, Challenges & Competition
The team that started off with just 5-7 members and INR 5 Lac in their kitty, now stands at 50 with constant growth on the cards.
A relatively new concept and venture, Jagsfresh wasn’t set up without hurdles. For them the biggest challenge was “to create a flawless supply chain on the Indian based consumption pattern using the Internet.”
With an aim to put smiles across a billion faces, Jagfresh doesn’t see any other venture as a possible competitor. “We add value where no one else is adding.
