IKEA Opens Its First Store In India But With A Twist
One of the world’s greatest furniture retailer, IKEA has opened their first ever store in Hyderabad. However, interestingly this store which is set to be their biggest in the world will include a restaurant segment, similar to their other outlets. Unfortunately, their signature pork and beef meatballs will be substituted with vegetarian and chicken dishes.
Indian Express reported that five years after the company received the Indian government’s approval to invest Rs 10,500 crore for its retail stores, IKEA plans to open 25 stores across India. They will also localise their food offerings.

The store manager of the Indian outlet said, “Hyderabad is a foodie city and we will absolutely have biryanis, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. We respect the faith in India and our meatballs have pork and beef so we won’t bring that to India.”
For just Rs. 149, hungry shoppers will get to sink their teeth into chicken meatballs, while a plate of biryani will be available for just Rs. 99. IKEA will also serve combos of coffee or tea with cinnamon buns for just Rs. 70, while customers with IKEA’s family card will get the combo at a discounted rate of just Rs. 50, according to its official website.
