An IKEA Store Is Coming To Hyderabad And Bringing Its Iconic Restaurant With It!
Soon, Indians will no longer have to go abroad to shop for beloved IKEA furniture; the world’s biggest furniture retailer has announced plans to open a 400,000 square foot store in Hyderabad come December 2017. However, it’s not just the furniture obsessed who should be excited; food lovers should sit up a little straighter in their seats too.
The IKEA Restaurant
Across the world, IKEA stores all have restaurants which serve traditional Swedish food as well as some local favourites. The IKEA restaurants are best known for their Swedish meatballs, which are served with boiled potatoes, cream sauce and lingonberry jam.
These meatballs account for almost 25% of some IKEA restaurant’s total orders.
Confirming that the Hyderabad IKEA will have a restaurant, the Country Food Manger of IKEA India, Henrik Osterstorm told Indiaretailing: We are planning to serve healthy food at affordable prices to attract more people to our store.”
No Meatballs Ahead
However, the restaurant will not be serving the iconic Swedish meatballs; Osterstorm said “We won’t be serving the traditional meatballs just like the rest of the world. We will only be serving Chicken and Veg Balls in a traditional way with mashed potato, cream sauce and lingonberries.”
The restaurant will also serve salmon, cinnamon nuns, croissants, blueberry jam and cloudberries as well as local dishes like Hyderabadi biryani, Dal Makhani and Indian bread. It will also serve beer at pocket friendly prices.
The restaurant will open half an hour after the store opens and possibly give away free coffee in the early hours.
