What’s SIAL?

SIAL China is Asia’s largest food exhibition, which has been taking place annually for 16 years. It divides food and beverage products into 21 different sectors including organic products, dairy products, fresh meat, pet foods and wines & spirits. It also has a sector for food related equipment and technology.

This year, the SIAL team estimates that it will host 2,900 exhibitors from 65 countries. Additionally, it is expecting a visitor footfall of over 66,000 individuals.

India and SIAL

In a statement to the PTI, Tribhuvan Darbari, Director General of the Chindia Chamber of Commerce commented “28 Indian companies have registered till now, we expect this number to go up to 50. The exhibition is expected to boost India’s food & beverages exports to China, thereby helping reduce the huge trade deficit between the two countries.”

If the exhibiting Indian brands are able to establish ties with traders visiting the exhibition, there’s no doubt that it’ll greatly help the Indian economy.

Indeed, the F&B industry in India is steadily growing; late last year the government approved 138 new food processing projects, while the restaurant and service industry is on the rise.
