New Brew Alert: Say Hello to the Honey Blonde Ale and Betel Juice
Popular watering hole, The White Owl Brewery in Mumbai, just gave beer lovers another reason to chug on the cold brew this summer. They just brewed up the Bumble, a Honey Blonde ale and Spark, a Belgian wheat beer with a hint of citrus.
We all love the Honey Blondes, don’t we? They are light and refreshing. What more could we ask for the summer?
While the Bumble is sure to be favourite, Spark, is a Belgian Wit, and like most classic Belgians, it’s fruity and citrusy. If you like fruit beers, this might be the one for you.
Now, that the Mumbaikers are sorted out. Bangaloreans, we haven’t forgotten you. Arbor Brewing Company, India’s first American craft brewpub, recently brewed the Betel Juice. The brew is a collab brew.
What is a collab brew?
It’s exactly what it sounds like. A collab brew is jointly brewed by a brew pub and informed beer aficionados. In the case of Betel Juice, the beer is brewed by ABC and members of the Bangalore Brew Crew. The Betel Juice is Bangalore’s first collaboration brew.
The city is slightly late to get on the collab brew bandwagon with both Mumbai and Pune serving some popular collab brews. The Kaapi Stout, co-created by Mumbai-based Gateway Brewing Company and home brewer Prateek Bavishi, has been well-received, while Pune’s most recent collab brew contribution was the Effingut, a jaggery pale ale.
According to beer evangelist John J Eapen, who was among those who helped with the brewing, Betel Juice is a “light to medium bodied ale that starts out with aromas and flavour of lemongrass and citrus and slowly transitions to a lingering dry betel-leaf finish.”
