No More Junk Food For Mumbai’s School Going Children
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has banned hawkers selling junk especially deep fried food outside the schools of Mumbai reports Mumbai Live. The corporation has declared that schools as well as hospitals with 100 or more number of patients shouldn’t have access to unhealthy, deep fried food. This decision has come up seeing the amount of people getting sick by consuming food rich in cholesterol levels.

Seeing how deep fried and high cholesterol snacks result in health issues, the Education Department had told the school canteens to stop selling such food items. But the BMC observed that children still had access to junk food outside of school which is why they’ve taken this step. There are 12 food items that aren’t supposed to be sold in school canteens which include, Vada Pav, Misal Pav and chips. The department of education says that they lead to unhealthy weight gain in children.
