Subway Franchisees Protest Against The Return Of The Five Dollar Footlong Next Year

on

The comeback of the five dollar footlong by Subway is no surprise since the fast food brands like McDonald’s and Taco Bell are coming up with the dollar menus. Subway has even seen a customer dropout of 25 percent in the last five years making the footlong a possible solution to perk up the sales. However not everyone agrees to it.

A report by the New York Post has said that the Subway franchises do not see the footlong deal as a good idea and feel that it will bring down the already thin profits. The report further says that about 400 of these franchisees have signed a petition against the five-dollar footlong which was to make a comeback for two months next year.

“The national promotional focus over the past five years … has decimated [us] and left many franchisees unprofitable and even insolvent,” said Mitesh Raval, the leader of the petitioners and the owner of the Virginia franchisee said in the letter to Subway. A spokesperson did say that most franchisees had agreed to the footlong deal but refused to comment on the memo and the petition.

According to Foodbeast, Subway has been trying to make the franchise owners understand how the footlong will help increase sales by holding regional town hall meetings.
