80 Bottles Of Rum Later, There Is A New Record For The World’s Largest Daiquiri
Tiny is not the first word that comes to mind in this scenario. On Friday, the 11th, bartenders from Porco Lounge and Tiki Room raised a really big glass to the weekend. How big is big? We’re talking 95-gallon big! That’s a lot of booze.
What inspired the mixing of this gigantic daiquiri? The crew at Porco lounge wanted to challenge themselves and attempt to set the world record for crafting the largest Daiquiri. No small feat to achieve.
The 95-Gallon Dream
To bartenders Jordan Anderson and Dan Watson, setting this world record was a big deal. “We’ve been all across the United States and the Internet, we might as well make it a world thing”, said Anderson. The idea was incepted when they began looking into whether there were any cocktail related world records. That’s when they stumbled upon the “World’s Largest Daiquiri,” made in 2012 by the El Floridita bar in Old Havana, Cuba, and verified by the World Record Academy. That cocktail weighed in at a whoping 71 gallons.
Taking this as a challenge, they announced that they would be attempting to break the previous record. To start off, they secured a sponsorship from Campari USA/Appleton Estate Rum and Cleveland-based Vitamix. Then they approached the Fabulous Food Show – United States of America’s largest presentation of fine food, fine art, craft breweries, wineries, restaurants and purveyors – to cover this feat.
Preparing The Arms For Battle
The bartenders spent hours of research to make sure they could craft a consistent, quality product – from the first cocktail to the last. Their goal was to make a 100-gallon daiquiri with house-made simple syrup, fresh lime juice, Appleton Estate Rum and ice.
The event saw four bartenders and four barbacks manning four gallon-and-a-half Vitamix blenders to fill the massive 100-gallon Tiki mug. This world record creation used an approximate of 80 bottles of Appleton Estate Rum! Bottoms up, anybody?
