Potassium Rich Foods Can Play A Role In Reducing Your Blood Pressure
Do you find it hard to manage your blood pressure? A recent study has found that you may want to increase your intake of potassium rich foods; potassium has been found to lower blood pressure.
According To Researchers
A collection of researchers from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California conducted a review of earlier studies concerning the effects of potassium and sodium on rodent models.
They found that a higher intake of potassium was linked to a lower blood pressure.
“Decreasing sodium intake is a well-established way to lower blood pressure,” Alicia McDonough, professor of cell and neurobiology at the Keck School of Medicine, said in a press release. “But evidence suggests that increasing dietary potassium may have an equally important effect on hypertension.”
“When dietary potassium is high, kidneys excrete more salt and water, which increases potassium excretion,” McDonough added. “Eating a high potassium diet is like taking a diuretic.”
Potassium rich foods include potatoes, bananas, sun dried tomatoes, kidney beans, avocados, fish and dried fruits.
