on

According to a report by the Times of India, the passengers on board the Secunderabad-Pune Shatabdi Express might soon be served food in eco-friendly containers. The containers and plates will be made of baggase and this change might be seen by the first week of July. Railways has been trying to set an example soon after the Maharashtra plastic ban.

Eco Friendly Food Containers

The material used for making these containers, bagasse is made up of sugarcane residue and is of no harm to the nature. Thus, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s (IRCTC) might set a big example for the no plastic movement in the state. “The Shatabdi Express runs six times a week, except on Tuesdays. The plan to pack food in eco-friendly material will be rolled out in phases,” senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) Krishnath Patil told the Times of India.

The report further said that once the food containers and cutlery is used, it will be collected and will used for composting. “As far as the supply of eco-friendly packaging material is concerned, it will be done by the IRCTC in coordination with us. We are planning to introduce the same material in other trains as well,” Patil added while talking to the publication.
