Sushi Burritos At Starbucks Yea Or Nay?
It’s not a big secret that Starbucks has been cashing in on current food trends (they were pretty much singlehandedly responsible for the unicorn explosion on our timelines). This time, the latest feather in their hat is the addition of sushi burritos.
Sushi burritos first gained popularity last year in the west coast of the US of A and finally trickled down to the rest of the nation. The fact that Starbucks has put it on the menu shows that they have finally arrived.
Sold as a Chicken Maki Roll, this creation is filled with sushi rice, shredded chicken, cucumber, pickled cabbage, onions, and avocado with tomatillo salsa and lime crema wrapped in a sheet of nori. It’s part of Starbucks’ new Mercato line, which includes other grab-and-go lunch items such as sandwiches and soups and is now available at two select stores in Chicago (LaSalle & Monroe, and 35th and State Street – Bronzeville).
While most examples of the fusion dish tend to include raw fish (the main premise of sushi) we’re sure that most people would perhaps want to avoid picking up raw fish from a refrigerated case at their local Starbucks (yikes).
It certainly doesn’t look too bad, we’ll just have to see how much America likes chicken sushi in the future.
