Zomato Is Looking At Running Its Own Delivery Options
Zomato, a restaurant discovery and online ordering platform may be looking into launching its own delivery service. Currently, it allows users to place orders online at various restaurants in different cities and ties up with third party delivery platforms to get the food to them.
Self-Fulfilled Deliveries
Sanjeev Bikchandani, the exceutive vice chairman at Infoedge, which owns a large stake in Zomato confirmed its plans to the Times Of India. “Zomato is evaluating online deliveries (that it can fulfil) on its own, but it will be done mainly for a small segment of restaurants,” he said.”
To that end, Zomato has been having talks to acquire Runnr, a hyper local delivery segment. Should the deal go through, Zomato will have its own means of delivering food to customers from local restaurants.
This strategy is possibly a move to compete with delivery services like Swiggy.
