38 Bars In Gurgaon Get The Go Ahead To Serve Liquor

After a lot of back and forth regarding the sale of liquor near state and national highways, a few Gurgaon-based outlets have been granted some relief. The district-level committee under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner Hardeep Singh – which includes officials of the excise department, PWD, NHAI, DTCP, Gurgaon police and Huda – on Friday gave a total of 38 outlets in the city have been given the green light to legally serve alcohol.

Of these 38, 11 are located in Ambience Mall, while 17 are in Sector-29. Additionally, Crowne Plaza and two other hotels in Rajiv Chowk and Sohna road have also been given relief. “These outlets have been cleared by the district-level committee. Their licenses will be renewed shortly,” said a senior excise official.

Previously, Huda officials following a request from the outlet owners had changed entry to the Sector-29 market. And as reported earlier, Cyber Hub had also changed it entry point to evade the liquor ban.

“It is pertinent to mention that Sector 29 falls within MCG limits and vest under the power of the commissioner, who has authority to change entry exits in any public street to prevent danger, inconvenience or for larger public interest,” said Vivek Kalia, estate officer, Huda.

This is going to be a huge sigh of relief for the pubs as well as people currently facing the wrath of the Capital’s consecutive dry days. However, the Sector 29 outlet owners said they had not yet received an official communication in the matter. “We’ve heard of it from sources, but there is no official communication yet. We can’t comment unless we hear from the excise department,” a bar owner told The Times of India.
