5 State-Run Canteens In Haryana To Provide Meal For 10 Rupees

on

After the Karnataka Government launched 24 Indira Canteens in Bengaluru, it is now the Haryana state government that has taken on the task of setting up state-run canteens that will provide proper meals for as less as 10 rupees. These subsidized meals will be served up at five canteens in four of the Haryanvi districts under the “Antodaya Aahar Yojana”, with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at the helm.

The five canteens, which are scheduled for a February 15 launch, will be set up in Gurugram, Hisar, Yamuna Nagar, and Faridabad, with two canteens in Gurugram and one canteen in each of the latter, said State Labour and Employment Minister Nayab Singh.

On September 17 last year, coinciding with PM Narendra Modi’s birthday, CM Khattar had inaugurated a similar canteen in Sonipat, announcing the launch of many more such canteens across the state.

Meanwhile, speaking about the food pricing, Additional Labour Commissioner, NCR, Naresh Narwal, said “While food will cost Rs. 20 per person, it will be provided at a subsidized rate of Rs. 10. The difference will be borne by the Food and Supplies Department, Labour Department, and Building and Other Construction Workers’ Board”. He also added that food quality will be kept in check by the Assistant Director and Deputy Director of Industrial Health and Safety Department.
