Hood Food: The Mumbai Guide – The Best Places To Eat Around Kemps Corner

Kemps Corner in Mumbai is a couple of roads away from Chowpatty beach and is just around the corner from some of the city’s most posh residential areas; Malabar Hill and Napean Sea Road.

As one would therefore expect, the area is filled with high end designer shops, exclusive saloons and upscale eateries. We take a trip to Kemp’s Corner every once in a while to wander through the massive Crossword store and buy treats for our pets at the expansive pet store next door. Each time we visit, we try out a new place to eat; here are the best of the best in the area.

Street Food

Just because it’s a posh area doesn’t mean that Kemps Corner doesn’t have some delicious street food; it is in Mumbai, after all! The locale is the home of the famous Muchad panwala who dishes out some of the best paans in Mumbai. Over at the other end, from a stall opposite Sophia’s College, you can find another famous street food; the spicy, legendary Mysore masala dosa. Aarey Stall, near Cumballa hill is another street food destination that serves (surprisingly) delicious Continental fast food.

Pure Vegetarian

29 – Twenty Nine is a new restaurant that has caught attention for serving fare from 29 different states in India. It’s purely vegetarian, as is Juno’s Pizza, much loved for – you guessed it – their cheesy pizzas. Shiv Sagar is a veg, pocket friendly casual eatery that serves delicious Indian snacks. Foodies in search of Mexican or Continental fare can try Salsa which is also relatively easy on the pocket.

Specialty Restaurants

In the mood for firang food? Head to Franscesco’s Pizzeria or Pizza Metro Pizza for some delicious, authentic Italian pizzas. Loco Chino serves a menu of both Mexican and Asian food, while China Garden is a favourite for Chinese food – especially its seafood dishes. We also love Tokyo Treat and Sushi & More, both for their (fairly) cheap sushi menu.

Fine Dining

If you’re in the mood to splurge, head to Pizza Metro Pizza, which combines fine dining with delicious pizza for a perfect meal. Or, head to Gulmurg at The Shalimar Hotel for a North Indian feast.

Just Desserts

Kemps Corner is the home to The Parfait Co, which sends deliciously cold, creamy parfait to your doors. If you want a sit down dessert, head to cafe Moshes in the Crossword bookstore for their amazing cheesecake or to The Wooden Spoon, a cute, sit down bakery.
