Food Worth Rs.3 Lakh In Mumbai Was Found To Be Adulterated

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of Maharashtra has been recently reported to take measures against milk adulteration. Meanwhile, they’ve also found adulterated food worth Rs.3 lakh during an inspection at food manufacturing units reports DNA India. The inspection was conducted in Borivali, Kurla, Dharavi, and Hay Bunder Road located in Mumbai.

Food Adulteration In Mumbai

The officials from FDA Maharashtra told the media that they had inspected food items like dible oil, mawa, milk, paneer, raw food material and sweets. “Food products worth Rs 3 lakh have been seized from manufacturing units across the city. We have collected 12 samples from the seized products; they have been sent for testing in the laboratory for further investigation,” Shailesh Adhav, Joint Commissioner, Food (Mumbai region) told DNA India.

“We inspected five food manufacturing units in the city and will be inspecting more in the coming days. After we get the test report, action will be taken against the owners of those shops,” he added. The department, says the report, has found Rs 1,22,780 worth of adulterated food in Borivali East and worth Rs. 6,240 in the West. The items seized here were paneer, milk, and mawa. In the Kurla area of Mumbai the department found adulterated items like sweets, barfi, and mawa which were worth Rs.16,336 and the items found at Hay Bunder Road were worth  Rs 1,31,295.

Adulterated food was even found in Dharavi which was worth Rs. 26,750. “Citizens should buy branded and packaged food products and sweets with appropriate labeling from shops. Such products are in high demand during the festival season. Citizens should buy food products carefully.” Adhav added in his statement to the media. The department has also set up a toll-free number for complaints about food adulteration says the report by DNA India.
