FSSAI Demands Stringent Punishment For Restaurants Delivering Substandard Food
After making several regulations like asking food delivery services to delist restaurants without licenses, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is still receiving complaints of sub-standard food being delivered to consumers. As a result, the regulator is planning to make the punishment stringent for the defaulters reports CNBC TV18.
Imprisonment For Defaulters
The report further says that an action report of delisting restaurants without licenses has been demanded by the regulator from prominent delivery services like Swiggy, Zomato, UberEats, etc. A source of the publication has revealed the regulator is even planning an audit to assess the information technology systems as well as to review the listing parameters.
The report by CNBC TV18 also explains that the Food Business Operators (FBOs) and delivery platforms are also to be checked of being complaint of the regulations. If they are found to be defaulting, they can be fined up to five lakh rupees and can face three years of imprisonment.
