India’s First Mobile Food Testing Lab To Be Unveiled In Goa

According to a recent report by the Economic Times, India’s first mobile food testing laboratory will be launched in Goa by the Chief Minister of the state, Manohar Parrikar. The lab is equipped to perform food safety tests on the spot. Prior to this, Dabur India was the one to launch such a lab to test honey.

“This is the first ever ‘Food Safety on Wheel’ mobile laboratory in the country. The chief minister will officially unveil it on Sunday,” said Vishwajit Rane, the state Food and Drugs Administration minister in a statement to the media. The laboratory can not only check the food quality but also the hygiene level of water in time duration of 15 minutes. Meanwhile FSSAI has also been trying to use technology in order to reinforce food safety norms.

“The mobile lab will do away with need to get the food samples to the FDA laboratory near Panaji for tests. It will cut the delays,” Rane added. “As the time would be reduced, action can be initiated immediately, if the food samples are found unsatisfactory,” he said. The lab has completely been sponsored by the Centre Rane said, the cost for which came to INR 45 lakh.
