Maharashtra Citizens May Not Be Able To Carry Food Inside Movie Theatres After All

on

Recently, 15 workers of a political party were denied from carrying food into a multiplex in Mumbai. And now according to recent update by the Free Press Journal, the state government has replied to the affidavit issued by the Bombay High Court saying that lifting the ban on outside food in theatres might cause chaos and security issues.

Ban On Outside Food Continues

This comes in contradiction to what was said in the state legislature during the monsoon session. In this session the government had said that multiplexes and malls have been instructed to let the customers bring outside food and beverages. The affidavit which has now been answered says that multiplexes and movie theatres have been told to make water available free of cost and that the food and beverages sold won’t exceed the maximum retail price.

“Although there is no specific provision in the Maharashtra Cinema (Regulations) Rules 1966 to prohibit viewers from taking their own food items or water inside, as per the opinion of the director general of police, carrying own food may create chaos and may lead to security issue. It is therefore submitted that there is no necessity to modify or make any changes in the prevailing rules (which bar outside food or beverages),” the affidavit said as reported by the Free Press Journal. A hearing is to be held today in the presence of the bench of Justices Ranjit More and Anuja Prabhudessai in which a petition will be heard against the ban of food and beverages in movie theatres.
