McDonald’s Japan Has Rolled Out A Limited-Edition Prawn & Macaroni Burger And It Sounds Drool-worthy

on

McDonald’s Japan has been on a roll this year. They have offered the coolest limited-edition items such as the cheese Katsu burger, their halloween witch fries, and their pumpkin chocolate fries to name a few. However, their most recent limited-edition menu addition looks like the most delicious of them all. Meet the Gurakoro burger.

The gurakoro burger is a giant fried prawn and macaroni croquette served with lettuce on a hamburger bun. The croquette is crispy and hot, and full of rich, creamy macaroni and prawn filling that is a bit spicy.

Over the last two decades, this limited-edition burger has turned up at regular intervals at various McDonald’s outlets across Japan. Owing to this, it has gained a huge fanbase and is an item sought after by many loyal patrons. One can say it enjoys a cult status similar to the McRib in the US.

However, this year McDonald’s Japan said it updated the recipe to make it even richer. To mark the new changes, the burger will now be called the “Cho Gurakoro” or “Ultra Gratin Croquette“, and sold for a limited time. According to the company, the thick egg sauce will now have a richer egg flavour, with the spice levels of the croquette increased to work as a nice contrast to the mellow sauce. The addition of fresh cream and butter to the dough means the buns are softer and more flavour-filled than before, with a light and fluffy texture that works well with the crunchiness of the fried croquette. The prawn and macaroni croquette burger will come topped with Cheddar cheese and demi-glaze sauce and served with a side of fries.

The burgers sell for about $3 apiece, but the limited-time offer is expected to end in early January. So you have a few weeks left to book a roundtrip to Japan!
