McDonald’s Outlet In Singapore Provides Phone Lockers

Are you one of those who hate when the person who is supposed to spend time with you is instead constantly checking their phone? Or are you on the receiving end? Either way, there is one outlet of McDonald’s in Singapore at Marine Cove that helps you keep the phone away so you focus on food and conversations only.

In an attempt to make it a happy meal in the truest sense, this McDonald’s has a ‘Family Playdate’ branded locker which has an ability to hold about a 100 phones in individual units. According to the study conducted by the same outlet, it has been observed than 90% of the parents and children are on their mobiles thus decreasing interaction.

This locker would keep them “more disciplined in staying away from digital distractions during family time.” The transparent lockers are the regular lock and key ones and the staff will remind the customers to take their phones while leaving. The idea is to be ‘guest experience leaders’ and ‘engage with families’.

“As a popular restaurant destination for families,” a McDonald’s Singapore representative told Channel News Asia, “we have observed that the use of mobile devices during meal times may sometimes get in the way of family bonding,” he said. Whether the idea will work well or not only time can tell.
