Nestle India To Educate Street Vendors On Food Hygiene
Nestle India in collaboration with the National Association of Street Food Vendors of India (NASSCI) and the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) in Goa is planning to train street vendors in a variety of factors to do with hygiene and entrepreneurship.
Street Vendors In India
Street food stalls are a large ‘business’ in India. indeed, when the government encouraged the public to come forward to declare black money a few months ago, road side eatery owners declared massive amounts of money; one even declared Rs.50 crore.
Considering the enormity of street vendor’s presence in the country, it stands to reason that they should be informed in food hygiene, safety as well as entrepreneurship.
The Initiative
Therefore, Nestle India will be educating the vendors in health, hygiene, food handling, waste disposal and entrepreneurship.
Commenting on the initiative, Sanjay Khajuria the senior vice-president, corporate affairs of Nestle India, said, “Ensuring clean, wholesome and hygienic food for the public is of utmost importance today. We are happy to partner with NASVI and FDA, Goa, to train over 500 street food vendors in Goa and extend it to 1,000 in the coming months.”
Similarly, Salim A Velhee, the director of the Food and Drugs Administration in Goa said “FDA, Goa realises the tremendous scope available to uplift the overall quality of food available in the state, especially when the state is internationally identified as one of the best tourist destinations.”
