New IRCTC Policy Is Underway To Upgrade Railways’ Food Quality
After receiving a lot of flax from passengers and stinker from the Comptroller and auditor general (CAG), which termed the food served at stations and in trains “unfit for human consumption”, the Ministry of Railways is finally making amends on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) front. As reported earlier, the authority will introduce water vending machines at all stations. But that’s not all, there’s a lot more in the IRCTC pipeline.
The Ministry announced with a series of tweets on Sunday, its new plans to amp up the food and catering services aboard Indian Railways and at the stations as well.
According to the ministry, in order to ensure better food quality, new kitchens will be set up while older ones will be revamped, and all of these kitchens will be supervised by IRCTC. The IRCTC has been mandated to carry out the unbundling by creating a distinction, primarily, between food preparation and its distribution, the report read.

Moreover, to crack down on food safety and hygiene, audits will be carried out regularly by Third Party Auditors in base kitchens, food plaza/fast food units, and pantry cars of IRCTC managed trains, the ministry said.

A number of rules have also been put in place to look after food quality in election special trains, including proper catering arrangements and regular monitoring.
