‘Provide Access To Reasonably Priced Food To Employees’ Says BMC To Lower Parel Corporates

on

Looking at the growing number of food hawkers near the corporate area of Lower Parel in Mumbai, BMC has asked the five corporate parks to provide reasonably priced food in their respective premises report the Times of India. The BMC has taken this step so that the employees won’t have to depend on food vendors to eat food which are causing a rise in civil violations.

The Growing Number Of Hawkers

The action shown by BMC seems reasonable as after the Kamala Mills fire incident they do not want another disaster from the growing number of hawkers that has grown leaps and bounds within a few years. The BMC’s G-South Ward has given a notice to Kamala Mills, Apollo Mills, Mafatlal Mills, Century Mills and Synergy IT Park to make food available within their premises reports the Times of India.

The publication further discloses the contents of the letter that read, “It is observed that employees of every cadre working in corporate offices depend on street food available during lunch hours as hotels in these offices are expensive and beyond their reach. This has given rise to unauthorized vendors selling articles on footpaths outside premises during lunch hours.” The publication confirmed this action of the BMC with the assistant municipal commissioner of G-South ward, Devendra Kumar Jain.

Times of India further reports about the letter which says that actions were taken by the civic body to stop cooking on footpaths and roadside but this hasn’t gone down. The civic staff is opposed to clearing away the hawker encroached areas as the employees in the vicinity say that they come from far away and can’t carry a tiffin as they leave early to reach work.
