Record Breaking Khichdi Utensil Transported To Golden Temple, Amritsar

on

After cooking up a record breaking 918 kilograms of khichdi at the Indian Gate lawns in the Capital earlier this month, the colossal stainless steel kadhai (the utensil in which the dish was cooked) has now reached the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Controversial Kadhai

The utensil, which is said to weigh a whopping 1,262 kilograms, now sits in the holy Sikh temple in Punjab. Although, it has not been displayed to the public, employees of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), including Golden Temple manager Sulakhan Singh Bhangali, have confirmed the utensil’s arrival. It has been reported that the kadhai will be used to cook food for the langars held at the Gurudwara.

However, Sewadars (volunteers) at the temple said that the kitchen there already has bigger utensils and that there was no need of this kadhai. That said, some also stated that the kadhai may be used to prepare kheer and other meals, since khichdi is rarely served at the Gurudwara’s langar.

On the other hand, citing religious regulations, some volunteers are not too pleased with the kadhai being used for making food in the temple, reports Hindustan Times. According to these sewadars, since the giant utensil has already been used elsewhere, it cannot be used at the langar. Therefore, it is still unclear whether or not the utensil will be used at the Golden Temple or not.

The kadhai garnered great value after a team of almost two dozen chefs supervised by Sanjeev Kapoor managed the inconceivable and cooked a massive amount of khichdi in it during the World Food India conference that was held in New Delhi form 3-5 November, 2017.
