on

The 70th Cannes Films Festival that was recently concluded on 28th May saw a number of head turning fashion statements and a fair share of releases as well. One such release that did the food fraternity proud was the trailer launch of ‘Buried Seeds’, a docu-drama by Russian-American filmmaker Andrei Severny that follows the life and journey of Michelin chef and restaurateur Vikas Khanna.

Khanna was seen walking down the Cannes red carpet to promote Buried Seeds’ trailer and also attend a tête-à-tête with the movie’s director and producer following the trailer launch.

Speaking on the inception of his bio-pic and the book that it is based on, the chef told Femina “He (Severny) approached me about making a film on my journey from Amritsar to America and with his pure craft, visual art and compelling storytelling, he has created a masterpiece called ‘Buried Seeds’, inspired by an upcoming book with the same name.

“Karan Bellani was writing the biography ‘Buried Seeds’, to be published by Wisdom Tree, and researching on the journey from Amritsar to Manipal. Many parts from the book had inspired the scenes in the film. The film has a lot of narration, interviews and kaleidoscopic visuals of India and it touches the core of human spirit – perseverance, loss, pain and victory. It is a very personal journey that Andrei has captured”, he said adding that Buried Seeds has given him a lot of memories to take home.

The chef also went on to reveal his upcoming projects – a 5-volume Indian Cookery Encyclopedia and a major book on Blossoms of Spices and their evolution. Khanna went on to disclose his newfound love for poetry: “I will soon be publishing my first book of poems from the heart of my kitchen, named POEATRY.” Moreover, June 2017 will also see the publication of his ‘My First Kitchen’ by Penguin-Random House and the premier of his show ‘Mega Kitchens’ on National Geographic.

With so much to look forward to, the pipeline is more than full for the chef as of now. For Khanna and his fans as well!
