We Hope You’ll Enjoy These Traditional Christmas Desserts Tomorrow!
No Christmas feast is complete without some decadent desserts gracing the table. Here, we explore the most popular, traditional Christmas desserts and what makes them so special!
Christmas Pudding
The Christmas Pudding is the king of all Christmas desserts. It’s made up of a mix of dried fruits, such as figs, raisins and dried plums, eggs and spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, coves and ginger. Suet – raw beef or mutton fat – is added to the pudding to make it incredibly rich.
Fruit Cake
The fruit cake, much like the Christmas pudding, is made using dried fruits and spices. The dried fruits are soaked in a variety of alcohols a month or so before Christmas in a ceremony known as cake mixing, and then mixed into cake batter which is also flavoured with rum or wine. The cake is then baked and is able to keep for months after Christmas.
Mince Pies
One wouldn’t think that mince pies would make an appropriate dessert, but when they include fruits and spices as well as mince, they make a perfect end to a Christmas meal!
Gingerbread Houses
A short while before Christmas, many families come together to build miniature gingerbread houses using baked gingerbread dough, melted sugar and candy. The tradition is especially popular in Germany.
Yule Log
Traditionally, a yule log is a special log that is burnt on a wood fire on Christmas Day. Over the years, it’s also evolved into a delicious dessert shaped like a log and filled with marzipan.
Trifles
Trifles are a popular English dessert all year long and consist of custard, fruits and sponge gingers. Trifles are sometimes served in the place of the Christmas pudding.
Pumpkin Pie
A carryover from Thanksgiving, pumpkin pies pair perfectly with turkey and sweet potato dishes popular during Christmas.
