Success doesn’t come easy. And there are more than enough people around the world to prove that. Take for instance all the beautiful people sprawled across TV screens and celluloid across the world. Yes, we’re talking about the A-listers. Actors who struggle to bag a house in Beverly Hills and a page on IMDB. A lot of these stars took to odd jobs, and believe it or not but a large number of them were even a part of the wait staff at restaurants. Here are 11 celebrities that waited tables before making it big in Hollywood.

1. Sandra Bullock

The Miss Congeniality actor was not just a waitress. She worked as a hostess, bartender, and waitress during her non-starry days. Actor and (then) colleague Jennifer Coolidge recalls Bullock as a favorite at the restaurants. “She was actually the hostess and I was the cocktail waitress. She ended up getting my shifts because I had such bad attendance,” Coolidge told The Talk.

2. Brad Pitt

This gorgeous male specimen too worked his hours at an eatery before making it to the Walk of Fame. By the way, did we tell you? His job responsibilities included wearing a chicken suit and dancing around to promote the local food chain.

3. Julianne Moore

A Daily Mail interview reveals the Boogie Nights actors early days when she waitressed to pay her bills. “I’m a worker,” she says. “I was a good waitress, because if you ask me to do a job, I’ll do it, no matter what it is.”

4. Lady Gaga

The singer and musician, whose family has a restaurant and cookbook to their name, also worked tables at a diner in her Manhattan neighbourhood. She says that all her paycheck money went into buying a Gucci bag to keep up appearances with her wealthy school peers at the prestigious Upper East Side private school “Convent of the Sacred Heart.” Guess she wanted the pen by her side.

A couple years before bagging Academy Awards and starring movies, a young Russell Crowe used to wait tables at a diner in Sydney, Australia.

Right after she graduated high school went on to take up the job of a coat-checker/waitress in a New York restaurant. Unimaginable yet true.

7. Jennifer Aniston

In an interview with Marie Claire, Aniston recalled her early days as an average server. “I wasn’t a good waitress, but I was told that I was very nice and charming, so people liked me anyway.” That, we can totally imagine!

8. Nicki Minaj

Minaj had to let go of her serving job at Red Lobster for chasing down a customer who took her pen. ”I like dealing with people, but I don’t really like a lot of bullsh–,” she told GQ, “so maybe customer service wasn’t the best job for me.”

9. Chris Pratt

A few years back while on David Letterman’s show, Pratt revealed that he worked at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. for about a year. It must be one crowded restaurant! *Imagination runs wild*

11. Chris Rock

Way before Chris Rock took to the stage as comedian, he also bagged a short stint as a waiter at Red Lobster in his stand-up. “The thing about Red Lobster is that if you work there, you can’t afford to eat there.” He’s said. “You’re making minimum wage.”
